Using an online game service to store and get data is all fine and dandy, but it’s quite a pain to start up a game every time you want to interact with your data. In Gemini I provided a little “tester” to get around this issue, but it was horrible to use and required you to know URL formatting. Sagittarius, in the hopes of being better, will come with a wizard.
The wizard revolves around the idea of “recipes”. As an example, suppose you wanted to get the message text of the current MOTD, with a type of “motd” and name of “motd”. You might add a GET button, two FILTER buttons (one to filter by type, and the other by name), and a PROJECT button (to return only the message, as opposed to the full object).
Each button in the recipe, when clicked, brings up a dialogue that allows you to customize it, like in the following screenshot:
And when you’re ready to interact with Sagittarius, you can just press the green submit button. It’s that easy!
I haven’t implemented this part yet, but the best part of the wizard will be the ability to save and load recipes. Assuming you’ll be adding a new MOTD every day, you could build the MOTD recipe once and save it — then load it, change the message to upload, and submit easily every time after.
I’m shooting for an early August release, and I hope I’ll be able to keep to that deadline!
